Telecross is a service provided by the Australian Red Cross. It provides seniors with a reassuring daily phone call to ensure that they are safe and well. If this call goes unanswered an agreed emergency procedure will be activated and help arranged if necessary.
Telecross calls are made by trained volunteers daily at an agreed time that suits the recipient of the call. Telecross provides peace of mind to clients and their families, and allows seniors to maintain their independence for as long as possible.
People can refer themselves or be referred by a relative, friend or health professional. If you would like to use the Telecross service, call the Australian Red Cross on 1300 885 698.

Do your have an Enduring Power of Attorney or an Enduring Power of Guardianship? These documents (which sometimes differ in name in each State and Territory of Australia) will ensure that a trusted person can manage your financial affairs and care needs in the future, should that be required. Or do you know a senior Australian that requires assistance with their financial affairs or care needs but doesn't have these documents in place? Each State and Territory of Australia has a Tribunal, which can issue orders relating to these matters.
The Australian Guardianship and Administration Council website has links to relevant websites in your State and Territory, which provide information about these matters.
Are you caring for an elderly parent or relative? There are a number of government payments that can provide you with financial assistance in your caring role, for example, the Carer Allowance (which is not income or asset tested) and the Carer Payment (which is income and asset tested). For more information, visit the Centrelink website.
The Australian Government has also established the Continence Aids Payment Scheme, which provides a payment to assist eligible people who have permanent and severe incontinence to meet some of the costs of their incontinence products. For more information on eligibility and how to apply, visit the Australian Government's Bladder And Bowel Website.
Are you a senior Australian that requires a hand around the home or some assistance with the activities of daily living? There are various government programs available to assist you. For information about help that is available to you, and how to access it, visit the Australian Government's Aged Care Australia website.
Are you a carer that needs a break from your caring role? The Australian Government has established a network of Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centres around Australia. These centres can assist carers with options to take a break through short-term and emergency respite services, based on assessed need, and provide advice on and coordinate access to respite services in a carer's local area.
For more information, visit the Commonwealth Respite and Carelink website.
